As we start to re-open our communities, while racing towards fiscal year-end, and are all busy, I thought it would be a good time for an update! I will try to keep it short, but if you know me- it probably won’t be the case!
Administratively, there are only a couple of items. First, an email was sent out regarding a salary survey. Please take the time to fill it out, as it will help all of us.
The PACT application deadline has passed and the status of the certification exams for this year is very much up in the air. This is not done to put added stress on applicants, the Education Chair and myself are trying to ensure the quality and integrity of the certification, while adapting to the changing times.
I have been forwarded emails and requests to waive classes to enable members to take the exam this year (if offered). These requests are coming from candidates that were planning on finishing the required classes this year, until school was closed.
It is important to remember that the certification curriculum was designed to cover ALL aspects of the Treasurer or Collector responsibilities, not just ones that may pertain to an individual’s current situation. It is an intensive curriculum and is meant to be that way. Communities know that certified Treasurer/Collectors have the knowledge to “hit the ground running”. If we dilute the requirements, then we dilute the certification.
The current situation is a once in a lifetime occurrence that was out of our control. But the requirements for certification must be met, and so if the test is offered this year, only candidates that meet all the requirements will be allowed to sit for the exam. Once a decision has been made, all eligible candidates will be notified of the time and place.
I would like to take this time, as it may be the last manifesto from me, to thank everyone for a great year as your president. Granted, no one told me there would be a pandemic when they were talking to me 3 years ago, but it was everything I expected and more! It has truly been an honor to serve this association. I hope we are in a better place than when we started, and had some fun during very trying times. I think everyone knows I like to put musical references in these updates, so…If this year was a song, I would be singing the Garth Brooks classic – The Dance. (Followed by his hit Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old!)
I would especially like to thank the officers (Michelle Hill, Chris Sweet, Barbara Barry, Victor Garofalo, and Rich Camignani) and the Executive Board (Barbara Auger, Ellen Guerin, Joanne Savignac, Georgia Colivas, Jane Lepardo, Renee Fernandes, John Clark, John Sousa, and Kevin Merz) for all their help and time. As a result of everything going on, they were subjected to a few more meetings than usual. Each and every one worked hard for our members and will continue to do so going forward.
Speaking of the future, our association is in great hands. Michelle Hill and her officers and board will do a phenomenal job (although I hope it is quieter next year!)
So, that’s all for now – I may still have one more update in me, you never know! But again, thanks for a great year, I hope everyone has stayed safe and healthy, and I look forward to seeing everyone in November for the Fall Meeting.
